Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

MGS and Beaches Pelvic Physio have merged forces to offer Women’s Pelvic Health Physio as a major service in our business. Return to the activities you love by taking the time to accurately identify the root causes of your condition, ensuring a smooth path to recovery with our Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapy.

Pelvic health physiotherapy is a highly specialised area of physiotherapy that addresses both internal and external aspects of the pelvis. Here at MGS/Beaches Pelvic Physio, our highly experienced Pelvic Health Physio's treat all ages and genders, with trauma informed care, to ensure the best treatment to optimise your pelvic health function.

What is Pelvic Pelvic Health Physiotherapy??

Bladder  control issues

It is not uncommon to experience bladder leakage or urgency due to coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising. Retraining your pelvic floor muscles through the help of a professional pelvic floor physio can help to minimise this problem for both men and women and enhance your quality of life.

Pain and Sexual Dysfunction

Don't suffer in silence with chronic pelvic pain. Find relief from pain associated with endometriosis, intercourse, menstruation, vaginismus, pudendal neuralgia and other pelvic conditions by addressing the co-existing pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, and other wholistic factors.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Manage your prolapse symptoms without surgery. Remove the fear and learn how to optimise your pelvic floor muscle function, integrating it functionally to not only control your symptoms, but prevent the prolapse from getting worse. Address the causes of prolapse to further minimise your risk. Trial a vaginal pessary to support the prolapse.

Birth Preparation and Rehabilitation

We want healthy mothers, both during and after pregnancy. Research strongly supports pre-natal physiotherapy for birth education, pelvic floor muscle retraining (both strengthening and relaxing/lengthening in preparation for giving birth) and management of pelvic girdle symptoms. We also encourage post natal rehabilitation to restore normal pelvic health, abdominal wall function and appropriate return to exercise/sport.

Bowel Management

Feel empowered and in control. Address constipation, faecal urgency or leakage, and leakage of wind, ensuring healthy bowel habits for the long term.

Paediatric/Teenage Pelvic Health

Bedwetting, Daytime wetting/soiling, urgency and pain can all be addressed with our resident Paediatric Pelvic Health Physiotherapist. Ages 4 +

Pre/Post Surgical Care

A Pelvic Health Physio can assist you in preparing for, and recovering from prostate, gynaecological and bladder operations, returning you to your daily activities more quickly and confidently.

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is an empowering way to optimise your pelvic health

Pelvic health is a specialism within physiotherapy that aims to help all genders, and ages, who are experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. This may include bladder or bowel leakage, urgency, emptying dysfunction or pain, sexual dysfunction and/or pain, pelvic organ prolapse, pregnancy related concerns (internal and external) , and external lower back/pelvic girdle pain. Many effective diagnostic and treatment options are available, including internal assessments, real-time ultrasounds, manual therapy and exercise programs. Our expert pelvic health physiotherapists are here to help.

Benefits

A specialist pelvic health physiotherapist can help prevent, cure or better manage complex conditions to restore quality of life.

Our specialised pelvic floor physios are highly trained health professionals with the experience required to put you at ease whilst exploring sensitive topics and creating personalised exercise programs for both men and women.

Method

The initial appointment involves completing a thorough ‘health history’ about your pelvic floor habits and experiences. To help with diagnosis, our pelvic health physiotherapists may recommend a real-time ultrasound assessment and internal examination if you feel comfortable doing so. Our pelvic health physiotherapists are here to provide clinical expertise. A management plan is devised, which may involve pelvic, bladder and bowel training, education, pelvic floor muscle exercises, and relaxation methods to put your pelvic pain at ease.

Results

Due to the complexity of conditions affecting the pelvic region, it is difficult to provide a timeline for results but most people see an improvement in urinary incontinence and control and bowel function and bowel control within as little as 2-6 weeks. For pre and post-natal or surgical treatment, you can rest assured that undertaking therapy will make the process more comfortable, and healing will be accelerated. MGS only offer pelvic floor physiotherapy of the highest standard.

Post treatment

Following your pelvic health physiotherapy treatment, continuing with any dietary, lifestyle or exercise recommendations is important to ensure long-term results are sustained. Please be aware that programs may need to be adjusted in future due to life-stage milestones such as menopause or pregnancy.

New patients might ask us…

Can I book over the phone?

Yes! You can call find the clinic phone numbers at the very top of the page on a desktop, or in the side menu on a mobile.

You will find our Receptionists very friendly and helpful. They will find a time that suits you and make sure you know where to park, how to get there and where we are.

Do I need a doctor to refer me to you first?

You do not need a referral from a doctor to see a physiotherapist however if you do have one please bring it along. We like to communicate with your doctor and any other practitioners involved in your care.

Will you remind me that I have an appointment with you?

Yes! You will have your appointment confirmed a day or so before by text, email or telephone call – whichever you prefer.

How long will my appointment be?

Appointments are scheduled a minimum of 30 minutes apart. We find that in the majority of cases that this is the most appropriate amount of time. In more complex conditions or for multiple injuries longer appointments can be arranged.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Yes please! Any investigations or scans relating to the condition will help us understand your presentation better. Even if you just have the reports from scans they will be very helpful. Likewise any notes from other Therapists or doctors would be great. If you don’t have anything then don’t worry just bring yourself.

If you have problems related to walking or sport then please bring your runners or boots in for use to look at.

If you have a WorkCover claim or were injured at work then please bring your claim number. If you do not have a claim number but intend to get one please advise our receptionist when you arrive.

I'm running late!

Our aim is that everyone receives the attention they require and while achieving this we attempt to utilise all of our available time.  If you are running late please call ahead and our Receptionist will check with your physio to see if it is possible to still see you.  There may not be enough time to attend to your needs effectively.  If we rush you through your treatment it is at best not helpful to you and at worst unsafe.  We can simply reschedule your appointment for a later time.
